Ossabaw Island
Ossabaw Island
Ossabaw Island is Georgia’s third largest barrier island. It is a geologically older island that has a 5,000 year human history. Ossabaw is also Georgia’s first state heritage preserve. This designation limits visitation to the upland areas for the purposes of science, research, education, or cultural study. The Ossabaw Island Foundation (www.ossabawisland.org) is charged with seeing that the rules of the heritage preserve are met. If you would like to plan a trip that works within those parameters, I can help with that. There are fees that need to be paid to the foundation in addition to transportation fees. If you would like to visit the north end beach, all Georgia beaches are open from sunrise to sunset.
